Why Advocate for
Women's Health?
Only 8-11% of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants currently fund women’s health, and just 2% of VC investment and Big Pharma R&D is focused on women’s health innovation. Yet according to the McKinsey Health Institute, women’s health is a $1 trillion market opportunity with a number of multi-billion exits in recent years, according to PitchBook. Women's health is on the rise with over 60% of companies in this space founded in the six years leading up to 2022. There was a 1,000% increase in the number of businesses focused on women’s health over the past decade, according to FemHealth Insights.

Most lawmakers do not realize that 66% of those 65+ with Alzheimer’s are women, 80% of autoimmune patients are women, lung cancer has risen by 84% in non-smoking women while it dropped by 36% among men over the past 42 years, Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women, Hispanic females are 40% more likely to be diagnosed with cervical cancer than non-Hispanic white females, and the mortality rate following a heart emergency is twice as high for women.
While many have experienced menopause or have spouses who have, they don't realize how menopause triggers more than hot flashes and brain fog, such as increased risk for heart disease, cognitive decline, autoimmune conditions, cardio metabolic syndrome, and many more conditions that hinder workplace productivity and increase medical expenditures. That is why our advocacy is so important. With education, we can shape policy and funding in Congress.
